His cases have arisen in a wide variety of settings, including commercial ports, warehouses, construction sites, entertainment venues, and other business establishments. He has also defended fleet drivers and trucking companies against claims arising out of motor vehicle accidents.  

 

Matthew also has significant business litigation experience, having worked for several years for a business litigation firm. There, he represented companies and professionals in claims alleging breach of contract and fraud, unlawful employment practices, and professional malpractice.

In 2010, Matthew became a partner at a New York based law firm which was establishing an office in Los Angeles. He managed the firm’s insurance defense practice in Los Angeles until he formed Banashek Irving LLP in 2017 with his law school classmate and colleague Michael Irving. 

 

Matthew graduated from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1991. He is admitted to practice before all courts of the State of California and the U.S. District Court for the Central and Eastern Districts of California. He has tried and arbitrated over twenty cases. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the California Lawyers Association, the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel.

 

Matthew grew up in Los Angeles as the youngest of eleven children. With continued strong ties to the area, he still lives and works in his home town. When he is not working or spending time with his family, he can usually be found playing soccer or managing his amateur soccer team.
